Dr. Steinberg received her Bachelor of Science in brain, behavior and cognitive science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. She completed her Master of Arts in biotechnology from Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Science in New York, NY. After this, she earned her medical degree from State University of New York - Downstate Health Sciences University. Dr. Steinberg completed her internal medicine residency at the same institution.

During her internal medicine residency, Dr. Steinberg worked within four diverse healthcare systems Kings County Hospital Center (NYC Health + Hospitals), SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn Veterans Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
