Sharath Bellary, MD, is a member of Summit Health's Pulmonary Medicine team. Initially starting as a mechanical engineer focused on implant design, Dr. Bellary made the transition to medicine after seeing firsthand the significant impact his work had on improving people’s lives.

Dr. Bellary specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of pulmonary diseases. His focus primarily lies in treating obstructive lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and using biologic therapies. The most important aspect of a patient visit for Dr. Bellary is taking the time to answer all the patient's questions in a manner they understand. This ensures the patient leaves the visit feeling their input is valued and they have a clear understanding of their health plan.

He is a strong advocate for patient participation in care, lending a careful ear to each patient's understanding of their body and symptoms. “The patients may not have a medical background, but they know their body and can tell when something is wrong. They usually give us the information we need to figure out the problem,” he says.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Bellary has a variety of interests such as reading, writing, gaming and spending time with his young children. He also is passionate about equity and justice, specifically in fighting systemic barriers and aiding marginalized communities.
