Matthew Kim, MD, is a member of Summit Health's Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) team. Dr. Kim decided to pursue a career in medicine while in high school. After he unexpectedly lost his grandfather to a medical illness, Dr. Kim realized he wanted to use this painful experience to make a positive impact in health care. Dr. Kim chose to specialize in otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) because it involves the ways we experience the world and interact with others through our senses of hearing, smell, and taste, and our ability to communicate through facial expression and speech.

As an ENT, Dr. Kim specializes in treating nasal and sinus issues, including difficulty breathing through the nose, acute and chronic sinus infections, and nasal polyps and tumors. “I also find it rewarding to collaborate with neurosurgeons to treat pituitary tumors and ophthalmologists to treat certain conditions involving the eyes and lacrimal (tear-duct) system,” he says.

Dr. Kim’s treatment philosophy centers on empowering patients to learn about their medical condition and make the right choices to maintain their health and wellness. He takes pride in helping patients understand what’s wrong and working together as a team to fix their medical problems.

“Trust is the most important thing when building a doctor-patient relationship,” says Dr. Kim. “Open communication and honesty are the key to successful patient outcomes.” When treating patients, Dr. Kim enjoys fostering long-term relationships and helping patients navigate periods of uncertainty or medical difficulty.

Outside of caring for patients in the office, Dr. Kim loves traveling, outdoor barbeques, and anything related to coffee. His passions include mastering the art of espresso. He is excited to educate the community about any nasal or sinus-related issue, ranging from simple allergies to chronic sinusitis to nasal tumors and cancers.
