Fiore DeVito, MD, is a member of the Summit Health Gastroenterology team. Ever since he was young, Dr. DeVito recalls wanting to help people. Health care allows him to help people through not only some of their darkest times, but also their best times. He is fulfilled by making connections with patients and helping to keep them healthy.

Dr. DeVito’s area of expertise is general gastroenterology and hepatology, which includes the following illnesses and diseases: abdominal pain, Barrett’s esophagus, Celiac disease, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, diverticulitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis, fatty liver, reflux, heartburn, and colon polyp removal as well as screening for colon cancer and swallowing disorders.

“My biggest mantra with patients is to really listen to them. By listening to all that a patient is experiencing or has to share, I feel I can get a better understanding of their health and how best to work with them,” says Dr. DeVito. He believes a patient’s comfort and trust is very important to the doctor-patient relationship, and that working together as a team to achieve better patient health is vital.

Dr. DeVito finds practicing medicine very rewarding. Nothing is more special to him than finding the one solution that stops a patient’s symptoms. He empathizes that bowel issues can be debilitating for patients, and it is often difficult to determine the true cause of such diseases. But he says, “when you can give someone their full life back without those issues, it’s very exciting to see.”

When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. DeVito finds it very fulfilling to go fishing down the New Jersey shore or watch any New York sports team. He also enjoys taking his dog, Roxie, on long walks and spending time with his wife and daughter. In addition, Dr. DeVito feels it is important to educate people about colon cancer and early screening.
