About Jessica Intravia, MD
Jessica Intravia, MD, is a member of Summit Health’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team. She specializes in the orthopedic care of the hand, wrist, and elbow, including nerve injuries and microsurgery. She is a clinical assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra.
Dr. Intravia believes every patient visit begins with a conversation discussing the patient, their condition, and all treatment options. She is passionate about designing the best care plan for her patients.
The main goal for Dr. Intravia is that patients feel comfortable during their visit. “I enjoy helping people get back to what they enjoy most,” said Dr. Intravia.
Dr. Intravia is a Connecticut native. She attended Cornell University, where she graduated Cum Laude. As an undergraduate, she received an NIH grant to study traditional medicinals used to treat malaria in the Venezuelan Amazon.
She remained at Cornell after graduation to obtain her Master of Health Administration from the Sloan Program in Health Management. She was one of three students accepted into the prestigious five-year accelerated B.S/M.H.A program.
She attended the University of Connecticut for medical school, where she graduated at the top of her class. While at UCONN, she also organized a free clinic for migrant farm workers.
She was one of two women in her class to complete her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Los Angeles County Medical Center and the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. She gained extensive experience managing complex trauma patients at this busy level 1 trauma center. During her chief resident year, she received a Young Surgeon Traveling Fellowship from the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand. She then spent two weeks in Managua, Nicaragua, performing pediatric hand surgery.
She obtained further sub-specialty fellowship training at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center and Jefferson University under the tutelage of Dr. A. Lee Osterman. While in Philadelphia, she traveled to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to perform complex reconstructive hand, nerve, and microsurgery.
Dr. Intravia is fellowship trained in the latest advances in Nerve, Hand, and Upper Extremity care with specific interests in minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, including endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, minimally invasive fracture management, nerve injuries, and pediatric hand surgery. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at national Orthopaedic and Hand Surgery conferences.
Outside of work, Dr. Intravia enjoys traveling and exploring NYC.
