David Hong, DO, FACS, is a member of Summit Health’s Colorectal Surgery team. Dr. Hong pursued a career in health care because he had an interest in science and medicine and a desire to help improve people’s lives.

As part of a colorectal surgery team, Dr. Hong’s area of expertise is in treating benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus. “I am trained and skilled in all types of colorectal surgery including in-office and hospital-based anorectal procedures, colonoscopies, and laparoscopic and trans-anal minimally invasive surgeries involving the colon and rectum,” he says.

Dr. Hong approaches patient care with compassion, providing a premier standard of care, surgery, and treatment to his patients. His primary focus is to educate patients on their condition and treatment plan, working together as a team. He believes if a patient better understands their condition, it will improve their health situation. 

Dr. Hong feels most fulfilled when he helps patients in ways beyond just relying on medication. Knowing that his actual hands are responsible for performing surgeries and procedures that help patients is especially gratifying for him.

Outside of treating patients in the office, Dr. Hong enjoys cooking, snowboarding, traveling, and fishing. He is also especially passionate about gastrointestinal health and colon cancer prevention.
