Sonam Sharma, MD has expertise as a Radiation Oncologist, treating all tumors including breast, prostate, head & neck, central nervous system, thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies. Specifically, Dr. Sharma focuses her treatments on state-of-the-art conformal radiation techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and image guided radiation.

Her approach to patient care is to treat her patients with the utmost care and respect while delivering exceptional care. “I focus on listening to my patients' needs and tailoring an evidence-based and personalized treatment approach for their disease,” she says. Dr. Sharma also believes in the importance of communication both with her patients and the rest of their care team.

During a patient visit, she focuses on listening to her patients and understanding their goals for treatment. Dr. Sharma enjoys the relationship she builds with her patients, considering it a privilege to provide care for patients and support for their families during a difficult diagnosis.

After completing both her medical education and residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Sharma joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In addition to her clinical practice as an Assistant Professor, she served as the Associate Program Director for the residency program at Mount Sinai. Her passion for education resulted in receiving the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology Educator of the Year Award in 2019 and 2021.

Dr. Sharma has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. She has also enrolled patients on both national and institutional clinical trials studying the efficacy of novel cancer therapeutics.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Sharma enjoys spending time with family, running, watching tennis, and painting. She is also interested in educating the community about the vital role radiation can play in treating cancer patients from both a curative and palliative perspective.
