Carolyn Birbiglia, MD is a member of Summit Health’s Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine team. Dr. Birbiglia pursued a career in health care to have the opportunity to form relationships with her patients and become a trusted resource to them. She applied to medical school with the goal of becoming a pediatrician and has never looked back.

Her expertise in pediatrics involves treating patients from birth through young adulthood. She loves caring for children of all ages and enjoys discussing topics ranging from newborn care to common childhood illnesses to mental or reproductive health concerns in adolescents. In addition, Dr. Birbiglia recently received her certification as a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor).

“Part of my job is helping my patients navigate the healthcare landscape – I hope to be a point person that helps direct my patients to the care or treatments they need”, she says. She also strongly believes in the importance of a team approach to care coordination and continuously working with both families and interdisciplinary colleagues to make sure all health issues are addressed.

During office visits, Dr. Birbiglia strives to create a safe, comfortable space for her patients. It’s very important to her that her patients feel heard during a visit and that all their questions and concerns are addressed. She feels privileged to watch her patients grow up and is honored that she can contribute to their well-being at all different stages of their lives.

Outside of treating patients, Dr. Birbiglia enjoys trying new restaurants, playing pickleball, watching the NY Mets, and spending time with her wife. She is also passionate about providing care to LBGTQ+ patients in the community, and educating people about healthy lifestyles, including the importance of developing positive nutrition and exercise habits.
