Sandra Stein, MS, RDN, CDCES, is a Summit Health registered dietitian and Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (DCES). Ms. Stein’s desire to pursue a career in health care was born from her passion to help individuals improve their overall health. She always wanted to have a positive impact on the community.

“I educate patients on a variety of nutrition-related conditions ranging from high blood pressure and high cholesterol to weight management,” said Ms. Stein. As a DCES since 2006, she provides robust diabetes self-care management education that encompasses medications, proper diet, healthy lifestyles, self-care, prevention of complications, blood glucose management, and healthy coping skills.

Ms. Stein has a mindful philosophy on patient care and views each patient as a unique puzzle that requires a creative approach to a successful path forward. She believes that recommendations and care plans need to incorporate a patient’s lifestyle and cultural preferences to successfully manage their overall health.

During an office visit, Ms. Stein strives to improve her patient’s understanding of chronic disease management and translates complex scientific information into easy-to-understand terms. She is passionate about guiding patients in making sustainable lifestyle changes to optimize their health, now and in the future.

Outside of treating patients in the office, Ms. Stein enjoys being outdoors, hiking, swimming, watching great films, and trying different cuisines and recipes. She is interested in population health, including disparities in optimal care among different communities and cultural competency. Diabetes, diabetes prevention, and healthy lifestyles are some of the topics she wishes to further educate the community about.
