Dr. Son received her bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering at Cooper Union and then studied psychoacoustics at MIT in its PhD program.  She then was awarded her medical degree magna cum laude from the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. She completed her residency in otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Subsequently, she was an otology/neurotology fellow in the Neurotology Division of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.

Most recently, Dr. Son was an attending physician at Capital Region Special Surgery, St. Peter's Hospital and Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.  Previously, she was an attending physician in the Department of Otolaryngology at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, NY,  where she initiated a cochlear implant program.
