Dr. Fonzetti is a board certified neurologist. He completed his PhD in biological sciences and his medical degree at Bari University Hospital in Italy. He completed his residency in neurology at Seton Hall University Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Neurorehabilitation at Weill Medical College of Cornell University at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dr. Fonzetti has practiced neurology for more than 20 years and he specializes in Alzheimer's disease, other neurodegenerative cognitive disorders and stroke. Prior to joining Summit Health (formerly Westmed Medical Group), Dr. Fonzetti worked at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital where he was the director of the Memory Evaluation Treatment Service and Chairman of IRB. He is also assistant professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Fonzetti was principal investigator of numerous clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease. He also conducted clinical research to clarify the biological mechanisms of neuroplasticity, novel neuropharmacological treatment, and training-related interventions to enhance recovery after a central nervous system injury such as stroke. In addition to publication in many peer-reviewed journals, his work has been presented at conferences and he has participated in several media interviews.

Dr. Fonzetti has been recognized several times for his work with Alzheimer's disease. In June 2005, he was awarded a Congressional Proclamation by Honorable Nita M. Lowey for his dedication to the fight against Alzheimer's disease, to medical research, and to the betterment of the community. He has also received The Renee Pollack Memorial Award from the Alzheimer's Association for distinguished service for his work with Alzheimer's disease. He is a member of professional societies, including the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Society of Neurorehabilitation.
