Darren Hammond, FNP-C, is a member of the Summit Health Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team. Inspired by his mother's forty-year nursing career, he admired her sacrifices and unconditional care for her community. He strives to emulate these qualities in his own practice.

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Mr. Hammond has developed a broad range of skills and knowledge. He has worked with a wide range of chronic and acute illnesses, including diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, arthritis, pain, substance use, and end-of-life care. His experiences in geriatrics have given him a deep understanding of his patients' needs, which sometimes extend beyond medication.

Mr. Hammond's approach to patient care is to always meet the patient at their level. He believes it is crucial to understand the patient's needs and to listen carefully to them. "Understanding the patient's needs and listening is the most important aspect of a patient visit," he says.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Hammond enjoys baseball, hiking, and reading. He is also passionate about giving back to his hometown in Nicaragua. He plans to organize an annual medical brigade to provide much-needed health care services to the community.
