Dr. Velia is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. After receiving her medical degree from Tirana University in Albania, Dr. Velia completed her residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY followed by her nephrology fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.

Prior to joining Summit Health (formerly Westmed Medical Group), Dr. Velia spent one year as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Recently she has worked as a clinical instructor with internal medicine residents on their nephrology rotations at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for more than 2 years. She has a passion for teaching and has been actively involved in the education of medical students, internal medicine residents and nephrology fellows.

She has had a vast experience in internal medicine and nephrology, working both as a hospitalist and nephrologist managing an array of medical conditions. She has a special interest in managing hypertension, acute and chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, electrolyte disorders, edema, etc.

Dr. Velia has clinical privileges at White Plains Hospital affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center and Greenwich Hospital affiliate of Yale-New Haven Health System, where she will be practicing nephrology. Additionally, she is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Medical Association.
