Santiago Wer Arrivillaga, MD is a member of Summit Health’s Internal Medicine team. Dr. Wer Arrivillaga pursued a career in health care because he interested in the well being of others.  He considers medicine to be an unfathomably complex subject that perfectly marries science and art .

The doctor’s area of expertise is Internal Medicine, where he gets the opportunity to treat the person as a whole . "This medical discipline combines all branches of the medicine tree, be it hepatology, geriatrics, dermatology, neurology, gynecology or psychiatry, an internist is a jack of all trades that applies them all.", he says.  "Uniquely, internists are experts in helping people stay healthy.", he emphasizes.  

Dr. Wer Arrivillaga’s philosophy on patient care begins with understanding inherent dignity of each person.  He tries to see God’s face on each of his patients.  “To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.” is a quote by Edward Livingston Trudeau, a nineteenth century American physician, that resonates with the doctor.   He tries to apply it to his daily practice.  

Dr. Wer Arrivillaga enjoys many components of what he does. From being able to provide comfort, to getting to know people from all walks of life, hearing patients' stories, figuring out a diagnosis, and serving others, he always likes adding a human face to healthcare.

Outside of caring for patients, he likes to explore regional cuisines, and enjoys standup comedy, world history, art, sculpture and painting. He is also passionate about treating underserved members of our community, evidenced based physical examination and medical education.
