Dr. Shankar, a board-certified radiologist, received her bachelor of science degree in life sciences with honors from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She was awarded her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. She then completed her residency in diagnostic radiology from Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. Her post-graduate training continued with a fellowship in neuroradiology at Yale University School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Summit Health (formerly Westmed Medical Group), Dr. Shankar worked at Columbia University as Associate Medical Director of Radiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital. She is a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiologic Society of North America. She has a special interest in Head and Neck imaging and has authored and illustrated several textbooks including An Atlas of Imaging of the Paranasal Sinusues. (2nd ed.) and Introductory Head and Neck Imaging.
